Saltwater Inshore and Nearshore FISHING REPORT

Snook, Tarpon and Spotted Sea Trout are on the agenda now for Fishing and Catching!!!

For all practical purposes... Snook can be found from Ft. Pierce to Boynton. The largest concentrations seem to be in the Indian River - West Bank around the Docks in the So. Ft. Pierce areas- The Inlet at Stuart, and around the Inlets in Jupiter and Palm Beach. Also, lots of docks at night or very early in the AM (Still at Dark O'clock!) are holding Snook. Lots and Lots of methods to get them. Overall in most cases, plastics seem to shine on a regular basis , as well as jigs, especially when livies are hard to get or to find.

I guided in the IWFA (International Women's Fishing Association) this week, and Snook and Tarpon were great. There were days of PreFishing where upwards of 50 Snook were caught... I guess that the "conveyor belt" Snookin' is on!! Many of the fish were on live bait and plenty were taken on plastics. Most fish are in the 10-25 pound range!!!

The Same was almost true-not quite so many- for Tarpon.... Some were on Live Bait, like Shrimp or Mullet or Greenies. Many were taken on DOA Terror-Eyz. Fish the North Fork of the St. Lucie River and The Big Mud Area in and around the Power Plant.

We also caught Seatrout this week on topwaters to 6 1/2 pounds... Good fish by any standards... Most of these fish were taken in the WEE Hours of the early morning, or just around daybreak!

If you care to run the beaches, from Ft. Pierce to The Palm Beaches, look for Permit and Pompano Schools and Spanish Mackerel along with Tarpon... The Permit and Pompano can be caught on yellow nylon jigs... The Tarpon and Spanish will hit the same as well as plastics.

Jump out the fly rod for all of them and use flashy flies for the Spanish and Seaducer types with dark backs for the Tarpon... Many of the Tarpon are Large, so use 10 - 12 wts. to go after them.

There have also been some reely nice Jack Cravalles in the 10-15 pound range. They will eat jigs, livies and flies... On Fly use a 9-11 wt. to fight these tough guys.

A good fly is a bait fish imitation -clouser types etc...- or a popper, especially if they are in shallower water.

Bent Rods To All,

Regards,

Capt. Jeff

FISHING REPORT-update 7-4-00-00

Mostly having Fly Fishing folks as of late... Been pretty busy so this will be on the short report.

We have been having some reely good days in the North and South Fork of the St. Lucie River as well as the Loxahatchee River... Catching Snook on Fly. Some days we are actually sight casting to fish along the banks.. Thanks to JD over at Redington Rods, he gave me a good tip for a fly to use on the Snook... We were not having much luck getting them to eat after using the normal bunch of standard flies . Anyway, the fly we had success with is a bendback rattler. Use orange over yellow for the best shots. Also, a red over white seems to be doing well in the streamer category. Don't be surprised if you get a Tarpon to eat one too.

There are also some nice Trout to still be caught in the Indian River ... 5#'s and more... (see the picture) . Fish around the spoil islands in the wee hours.. You might consider wading, but watch for the Sharks. Streamers flies have been good on these fish as well.

If you choose to go with plastics, choose DOA Terror-Eyz or Shrimp. Try the new Avocado color in the shrimp or Rootbeer in the Terror. Take your Terror-Eyz down to the inlets and drift along with the tide...bouncing the jig along the bottom. I suggest using heavier tackle than usual, as the Sharks are eating the Snook once hooked. Be Careful!! when releasing the Snook or the Sharks may release you of some fingers etc... The fishing was much better before the Sharks showed up!! Maybe it'll get better when they leave! Soon I hope!!

Bent Rods To All,

Regards,

Capt. Jeff
