Duval Point Lodge - Fishing Report For Aug 26, 2001
Hello everyone and welcome to the fishing report. This past week has been a very wet one, but it has not stopped us from fishing. There are still lots of salmon moving past the lodge. We have had a great week for wild life viewing as well - whales, bears, river otters and one friendly black cat that must have walked all the way from town. (If anyone is missing him, please give us a call.) The killer whales showed up a couple of times out in the channel and along Duval Island. Thursday afternoon a couple of humpback whales moved into our area for a couple of hours and put on a great show. On Saturday a large herd of dolphins (approx. 300) were spotted north of the Walker Group heading southeast.
The pinks are still here in large numbers and are some of the largest we have seen. One actually weighed 10.5 lbs!
Two friends, Theo Stephens of New Zealand, and Gord Northcote of Summerland spent a few days fishing and visiting with us. Both went home with their limits of Chinook and Pinks. One morning while fishing with them we hooked into a double header at Duval Island, a nice size Chinook that weighed 18 lbs and a Coho (released) that must have been close to 22 lbs.
On Thursday, my last day out at the lodge for the week I was able to talk my wife Debby Howard to go out and do a little fishing just in time to catch the tide change. We had just rigged up and had our lines in the water for only a few minutes and off went one rod. All I could do was hold onto to the rod as the line was peeling out, I knew I was into a nice fish. This fish ran and ran and then down he went. I was beginning to wish I had re-lined my reel the night before. The only thing we could do was follow the fish, and with Debby at the wheel off we went. After about 15 minutes we were able to get it up to the boat where we netted my largest fish of the season - 40 lbs! All in all, it was a pretty good day.
If you are planning to fish with us next year, please make reservations early. The dates are filling up fast and some dates are already sold out.

Hello everyone and welcome to the fishing report. What a week we had out on the water this past week - one of the best weeks in the past 10 years! We weighed in loads of Chinook between 30 and 50lbs and released a lot of big Coho.
We have a new leader and in our Duval Point Lodge fishing derby. Jack and Jo-Anne Ambrosani of Sandpoint Idaho caught a 48 lb Chinook on a black and white hootchie at Duval Point. We understand it was a joint effort bringing in this monster with the rod was passed back and forth between Jack and Jo-Anne. First it was wrapped around another boats down rigger and then around their own motor. Cooperation wins, and between them, they managed to boat the fish. Jack and Jo-Anne had quite a week. Besides catching the 48 lb. Chinook they also took home five other Chinook, 32, 31, 27, 24 and 18 lb. plus a couple of small halibut. Now if Jack and Jo-Anne win our fishing derby, which one gets the free fishing trip?
Dick Walker and his son Don also had a great week fishing. Aside from going home with their limit, they caught and released several more salmon in the 30 lb. range.
The largest halibut of the our season so far at 140 lbs was caught this past week behind Slipper Island, by Kim Sauro of Kent Washington. Kim’s fish had a few pounds on her, but Kim is a very accomplished fisher and had no problem bringing this monster in.
There are still a few spaces available up to September 7 this year. Call me if you’re interested. If you are planning to fish with us next year, please make reservations early. The dates are filling up fast and some dates are already sold out.
Duval Point Lodge Fishing Report For Aug 11, 2001
Hello everyone and welcome to the fishing report. We had another great week out on the water. The bite goes on!! We had several tyees (Chinook over 30 lbs.) weigh in, and then many more in the 18-25lb. range. Rick Klinnert of Oak Harbour Washington and Bill Rawlings of Preston Idaho, tied this week for the largest Chinook at 32 lbs each.
This past week at Duval the bite happened right at daybreak and then by 8 a.m. it was over. We still saw fish coming in, but not as hot. This week we were fishing between 60-80 feet using a cut plug herring.
John Bolte, his father (John) and son (Zak) of Coupeville, Washington had a fantastic trip. They went home with six nice Chinook, the largest weighing 29 lbs. On Wednesday morning, as with all teenagers, Zak wanted to stay in bed. However, with a cabin of fishermen and women there was no way Zak was going to sleep in. Zak started off his morning with a 29 lb. Chinook caught at Duval and ended it with a 42 lb. halibut up in Christie Pass. Then Zak learned to filleted his first halibut and managed to do not a bad job.
This weekend we saw a new surge of Chinook show up on our door step. On Saturday we weighed in close to 20 Chinook. Will and Kim Sauro of Kent Washington, limited out with four nice Chinook between 23 and 26 lbs.
The pinks are still around in large numbers with some putting up quite the scrap. The Coho are now getting a little larger and we are starting to see the odd one now with a pronounced hooked nose.
With the large amount of salmon now going through our area, we are seeing the orca’s daily - sometimes in pods of up to 30.
We are now taking bookings for next year. If you are planning on returning please book early and avoid disappointment as some dates are already sold out.
Duval Point Lodge Fishing Report For Aug 4, 2001
Hello everyone and welcome to the fishing report. What a week we had out at the lodge! Just about everyone went home with his or her limit of Chinook. Many of our boats limited out early in the morning and then had the rest of the day to play.
Duval Point was the place to be this week. All our fish were caught within minutes of the lodge. The choice of tackle this week was a cut-plug trolled at 60 feet although really just about anything worked. Tim Westvang, Curtis May and Marc Johnson tried out some trout lures and caught several Chinook in the upper 20’s. What ever works.
The bite would start early in the morning at daybreak and continued all through the day till evening. The morning and evening were the better times to fish, but we saw fish coming in all day. Tuesday was our big day when we saw close to 30 Chinook weigh in all between 20-30 lbs. Tom Sauro of Sumner Washington caught the largest Chinook of the week at 32 lbs. Roger Boardman of Goldendale Washington was close with one at 31 lbs.
Orcas (Killer Whales) showed up Tuesday evening out in the middle of Goletas Channel and we were all expecting the fishing to turn off the next day, but our fears never materialized and the bite continued on the next morning.
The Pinks have now shown up in large numbers. Some of the Pinks are quite large - we even had one weigh 9 lbs. These large Pinks we are assuming are heading for the Fraser River.
When you think you have seen everything on the water something new catches you by surprise. Thursday morning while fishing out at Duval, I saw a fisherman fall overboard. The fisherman was fishing on a 50-foot yacht standing on the swim grid. As he was reaching out to unhook a small salmon, over he went. Luckily his buddies were quick to react and had him in back in the boat within a few minutes just a little wetter and a wee bit chilly.

Duval Point Lodge Fishing Report July 29, 2001
We have had another beautiful week out on the water. The week started off with a little bit of wind, but not enough to stop us from fishing, just enough to make things interesting.
The salmon fishing has been great all week and we have seen close to a dozen fish come in the past week over 30 lbs. Bud Engle of Tacoma Washington caught the largest Chinook this past week weighing 37.5 lbs. We are now seeing on average 10 – 15 nice Chinook a day weighing between 18 and 37 lbs. The majority of these fish are being caught at Duval Point, fishing at a depth of anywhere from 60 – 80 feet. The Chinook are being caught on cut-plug, anchovie and even the odd hootchie.
The Coho are still around in great numbers, while the pinks still have not made too much of a showing.
This past week my father and brother-in-law, Brent and Harold Howard came up to do a little fishing along with Harold’s friend Jimmy Morrison. We managed to send them home with six nice fish, the largest weighting 24 lbs. My son Cole took his Grandpa and Jimmy out for a couple of afternoons of fishing off Duval. Cole was able to put Jimmy into a nice 24 lb. Chinook one day and the next day was Harold’s turn to boat a 22 lb. Chinook.
With the extreme tides this past week we have had nothing to report in the bottom fishing end of things. As the tides start to flatten out we will see more people heading out bottom fishing.
Duval Point Lodge Fishing Report for July 21, 2001
Hello everyone and welcome to the fishing report for July 22, 2001. This past week has been just gorgeous out on the water, the sun has been shining and very little wind in the afternoon.
Every year a friend of mine, Gord Northcote from Summerland tries to make it up into our area to do a little fishing. We have fished together all over Vancouver Island and have managed to do some fishing in New Zealand, but Port Hardy has it all. This year we planned to do one day of halibut fishing. We headed out from the lodge around 7:00 a.m. with 2 boats, Gord and his friend Jerry (also of Summerland) in one boat and myself and my son Cole in the other, to one of our secret holes, that half of Port Hardy only knows about. The fishing for the first hour was quite slow except for a few nice yellow eye, then Gord hooked into a big one. I got this call from Gord that I better come over and give him a hand, it seems his friend Jerry is a little seasick and is barely holding on to his breakfast. It was a little tricky jumping from one boat to the other in the swells but it was well worth it. Gord fought this halibut for an hour and had it up to the boat a couple of times before I was finally able to harpoon it and get it tied up and bleed. Back at the lodge Gord’s halibut weighted in at 130 lbs., the largest of the season.
The Coho are everywhere we are picking them up from the surface all the way down to 120 feet. The salmon fishing this past week has been excellent. The largest Chinook this week topped the scales at 35 lbs. caught by Eric Poole of San Rafael California on Saturday off the red rock at Duval using a cut plug herring at 60 feet. Dan Glover of Gig Harbour picked up a 32 lb. Chinook off the bottom of the Gordon Group using an anchovy. . Robert Lynehan and Terry Bruhm of Hayden Lake, Idaho booked our guide Bill Grief and went home with 5 nice Chinook the largest weighting 31 lbs. This past week we have seen quite a few nice Chinook brought in over 30 lb. and more in the 20 to 30lb range.
Again this past week we have had many sightings of killer whales, and one very large humpback whale northwest of Scarlett Point. The dolphins have also been around playing in the bow wake of our boats and putting on quite the show. The river otters have been hanging around the lodge and dining on a smorgasbord of fish heads and carcasses.
We have a little space available Aug 17-20 that is still available that we are discounting $200. This trip which sells for $640 Canadian is now $440 (approx. $300 US). For more details give us a call. Office # 250-949-6667, Lodge # 250-949-1294
Duval Point Lodge Fishing Report - July 15, 2001
Hello everyone and welcome to the fishing report for July 15, 2001. We are now in the midst of a huge migration of Coho moving thru our area, we are estimating some of these fish are now between 12 - 14 lbs. Unfortunately we must release all the Coho. The pinks have not yet arrived in large numbers, but if its like other years they will be here over night and everywhere.
We are still catching some nice Chinook, the largest caught this past week was a 22 lb. caught off Duval by Bob Nagler of Olympia Washington, using a cut plug herring at 60 feet.
Mell and Marvin Ivy from Collbran, Colorado had never done any ocean fishing before coming to Duval Point Lodge. They wanted a little extra help in the way of a guide for a few hours to get them going, with such short notice I couldn't arrange one of my usual guides. The best I could do for them was my 16 year old son, Cole Makinson who has fished all his life. He took them out for a few hours, they caught and released half a dozen Coho and kept one pink for the barbecue that evening. (looks like I might have a new guide) Mell and Marvin were quick learners, they took home a couple of Chinook under 20 lbs. and released a ton of Coho. Later on in the week Cole and I went out off Duval and caught a couple of nice 17 lb. Chinook and lost one big one off the Red Rock. We tried various depths to get away from the Coho, but we picked them up all the way down to 120 and that's where we picked up the Chinook.
Jeff Chapman of Irvine, California still has the lead in the Duval Point Lodge Fishing Derby with the 41 lb. Chinook, caught June 22 off Duval.
Our guests are now seeing whales everyday from orca's to humpbacks in their travels out from the lodge. The bald eagles put on a show for us all every afternoon around the fish cleaning table picking up any scraps that go floating down the channel.
We have a little space available Aug 17-20 that is still available that we are discounting $200. This trip which sells for $640 Canadian is now $440 (approx. $300 US). For more details give us a call. Office # 250-949-6667, Lodge # 250-949-1294

Hello everyone and welcome to the fishing report for July 9, 2001. If you are getting this report by mistake or no longer want to get please let me know and I will remove your address.
Rick Zorich's (of Edmonds, Washington) friends wanted to do something special for their friend who is getting married later this month. They decided to take him fishing last weekend, between the four of them they were able to hook into and land seven Chinook the largest going 28 lbs. Most of these fish were caught over at Castle Point using an anchovie at 60-80 feet.
This past week I was only able to get out for one day of fishing, I decided that Castle Point was to be the place. On arrival I spotted 2 humpback whales which feed in the area for over an hour, what massive animals. The salmon fishing on that day was a little slow there was about 10 boats fishing and I saw and heard of 5 fish caught for that morning. I was one of the lucky ones, I was able to hook into a nice Chinook around 18 lbs. which turned out to be a white spring.
Ken Lilliquist of Olympia, Washington was the top fisherman for the week at the lodge he took home 2 nice Chinook a 32lb and 22lb taken on a herring at Duval, he then toped it off with a 32 and 22 lb. halibut.
The largest halibut this past week was caught by Cheryl Peters, of Rosalia Washington on Thursday she hooked into a 51 lb. halibut over by the Deserter Group.
Saturday was the day to be fishing at Duval, after talking to a few people who were there it sounds like everyone was catching some nice big fish. We are just starting to see the first few pinks starting to show up, which seems to be a little early this year.

Duval Point Lodge - Fishing Report for July 1, 2001
Hello everyone and once again welcome to the fishing report for July 1, 2001. Please let me know if you are receiving this report by mistake or don't want to receive it and I will remove your name.
This past week the Chinook fishing has been a little slow, but we have had a few come in the 24-26 lb. range. It has been quite hard to fish Duval Island due to the amount of seaweed brought in by the extreme tides. The Coho have moved into our area and we are seeing some size to them. Some that have been caught and released we estimate to be close to 9 lbs.
Towards the end of the week the tides started to flatten out a bit and the bottom fishing gear came out. Thursday was the big day. We had four boats head out, and by the afternoon we had 12 halibut on the scales. The largest weighted in at 68 lbs caught by Don Lahon of Boise, Idaho. Don and his fishing partner Dave Cockron also of Boise, had a total of three nice halibut ranging from 30 lbs to 68 lbs. They also had a nice assortment of lings and yellow-eye. The previous day out at Castle Point Dave also picked up a nice Chinook weighting in at 26 lbs.
Garth Judd, Dave Revard, Brian Revard, and Dave Revard Senior, also did well. They came in on Thursday with eight nice halibut, the largest weighting 58lbs, then 56lbs and the rest weighting between 25 and 40lbs. The rest of the day they spent cleaning fish.
Glenn Swayse and Marty Flemming of Gig Harbour, Washington, took home three nice halibut - 20lb, 22lb, 48lb and a 26lb ling cod, plus a variety of rock fish and a couple of small Chinook.
Till next week tight lines.
Duval Point Lodge Fishing Report For June 26
Hello everyone and welcome to the fishing report. If anyone is receiving this by mistake please let me know and I will remove your name.
Every year at the lodge we have an in house fishing derby. The fisherman or fisherwoman who catches the largest fish wins a free fishing trip next year. I was all set to let everyone know that Tony Simpson of Marysville, Washington was leading in our derby with a 28 lb Chinook caught Wednesday evening at Duval, but we have a new leading fish. Jeff Chapman of Irvine California now has the lead with a 41 lb Chinook caught Friday evening in front of the lodge by Duval Island. Besides bringing in the 41 lb Chinook, Jeff also had an 18 lb. Chinook.
Jim and Jim Fasano (father and son) of Washington also had a good night on Friday, they hooked into and landed three nice Chinook between 18 and 25 lbs.
Ray and Jeff Morgan (father and son) of Port Angeles took advantage of our new package and brought their own boat. They primarily came to go bottom fishing but could not resist and do a little salmon fishing when the tides weren't cooperating, they managed to hook into and land a couple of nice Chinook in the low 20's. When the tides cooperated they were able to catch some nice halibut in the 20-30lb range, along with a nice assortment of lingcod, yellow eye and rockfish.
I was even able to sneak out for a couple of hours on Thursday morning with my son Cole Makinson and his friend Nathan Fox of Brisbane, Australia. We were able to get Nathan into his first salmon, a 14 lb. Chinook. We reset the lines and Cole's line was off. This time the fish was a little larger - a 23 lb. Chinook. Both of these fish were caught at Duval Island at 60 feet.
Four spaces have become available July 23-27 due to an unexpected cancellation. We are offering these spots at a reduced price. We have reduced these trips by $200 each, from $780 to $580. For more information please give me a call. I can be reached at the office 250-949-6667 or after Sunday at the lodge 250-949-1294

Duval Point Lodge Fishing Report - June 15, 2001
Hello everyone and welcome to the first fishing report of the season. If anyone is receiving this by mistake please let me know and I will remove your name and address.
The floating lodges were all towed out of Port Hardy June 1 and are now all tied up in our little bay behind Duval Island. The fishing season arrived for us on June 8 with the arrival of Jeff and Harry Millspaugh of Portland, Oregon. Jeff and Harry ( son and father) have fished with us for many years. They are usually our first guests of the season, only coming to fish for halibut. This year they had to work a little harder, but never the less they did bring in some nice butts: a 49 lb, 39, lb followed by a couple in the 20's.
Cheryl Heisinger and Ed Estes of Whitefish, Montana, met Harry and Jeff at Duval Point Lodge three years ago. Since then, they plan their yearly fishing trip to coincide with Jeff and Harry. Ed and Cheryl also brought in some nice halibut, the largest weighting 53 lbs and four more ranging from 20-30 lbs.
Most of you who know me know that I love to salmon fish and that I find halibut fishing a bit too much like work. On Wednesday June 13, I managed to sneak out in front of the lodge for the first time this season. I puttered out of our bay and had my first line in the water a little after 7:00 a.m. I was just starting to get my second rod all set up and I happened to look over to see my first rod tip buried in the water. Fish on! Within 5 minutes of fishing that morning I was hooked into my first salmon of the season. Had a great fight and by 7:20 that morning my first Chinook of the season was in the boat - 21 lbs. Fished for the next couple of hours, but caught nothing more.
The Chinook have been moving into our area for the last couple of weeks. The largest I have heard caught was last week - 35lbs over at Castle Point by a local boat. We are still early in the season and we expect to see more and more Chinook move into our area within the next few weeks, followed closely by the Coho. As yet it is still catch and release for Coho in our area.

Hello everyone and welcome to the last fishing report of the season. It's official .... Elke Dinter of Seattle Washington, is the winner of our in house fishing derby and wins a free fishing trip back next year. Way to go Elke! Elke caught her 36 lb. Chinook at Duval Point ( only minutes away from the lodge) on Aug 14.
Our season ended on Sept 8 this year. Frank Keys of Sequim, Washington went out for the morning bite of our last day. His partner Jim Allison, also of Sequim, elected to stay back and do the packing for the return trip home. Bad decision! With only minutes left to the season, Frank returned to the dock with a 33 lb. Chinook caught and landed by himself. Nice fish Frank!
The floating lodges have now been towed in to Hardy Bay and are tucked away for the winter. The land based lodges are quiet too now, but are available this winter for diving charters or for some winter storm watching. There is nothing quite like sitting by a cozy fire and watching the wind and waves in a good south-east storm.
For those of you planning to fish with us next year, please book early as we have dates that are now sold out.

Hello everyone and welcome to the fishing report for Aug 26. I was away last week and so didn't put a newsletter out, so this weeks report will have some details from both weeks.
We now have a new leader in the Duval Point Lodge fishing derby. Elke Dinter of Seattle Washington caught a 36 lb chinook caught at Duval Point. Her partner Rick Haws also brought in a 25 lb. chinook.
The Pudget Sound Anglers of Oak Harbour made another trip to our lodge this year. Roger Weber weighed in a 132lb halibut caught out at Crane Island. Some of the other members did quite well salmon fishing:
Shelby Pearson - 33 lb chinook and 17lb chinook
Lance Basset - 24lb chinook
Angelo Kolvas - 21lb chinook
Jan Sabalansky 15lb chinook
Will Sauro of Kirland, Washington hooked into a triple header at Duval. He managed to hold onto one-a nice 30lb chinook. His future in-laws, Oscar and Fay, brought in three chinook at 30, 16, and 12 lb.
George Saxbery, Larry Stock and Steve Griffine of Reno Nevada, spent the afternoon up in Christie Pass fishing for halibut where they hooked into and landed five halibut, between 25 and 45 pounds.
We are still hooking into some nice coho and are just starting to see the beginning of the northerns with their prominent hook nose. Most of the pinks are now up in the river.
For those who are planning their trip for next year please give us a call early to ensure the best dates.

At the beginning of the week we saw some nice halibut brought in by Gordy Sexton of San Francisco - 82 lb. and 48 lb. caught out by the Deserters. The Yahns of Portland Oregon who fish with us every year weighed in a 42 lb. halibut caught up at Christie Pass.
We are still catching lots of Coho along with pinks. There is a slim chance we may see the coho open the first of Sept., when they feel all the Thompson River Coho have gone through our area.
The past week the Chinook fishing has been slow - we saw a few small ones brought in between 12 and 17 lbs. Thursday and Friday the fishing turned on. Allan Anderson of Edmonds, Washington started it off Thursday with a 26lb. Chinook followed up closely by his son Collin Anderson with a 25.5 lb. Chinook and their fishing partner Paul Powehlnan with a 24.5 Chinook.
Gary, Mike, and Rolondo Magnussen (Father, Son, and Grandson) of Centralia, Washington had the hot rods this past week. They weighed in a total of 5 salmon at 22, 27.5, 28, 30 and the largest weighing 32 lbs. All these fish were caught in front of the lodge using a cut plug herring.

The past week we have had some extreme tides causing a lot of junk to be washed off the beach and into the water. It has made it very difficult to fish as we are constantly cleaning the lines, but it has not affected the fishing.
The past week I estimate our guests have caught and released approximately 60 - 80 coho per day. Most of these fish we estimate are weighting around 13-15lbs, but we are now seeing a few up close to twenty pounds.
The pinks are still plentiful, and are very nice on the barbecue. The largest Chinook this past week was caught Aug 4 by Mike Morreno of Lynden Washington 35 lbs. Will Sauro of Kent Washington caught a 30 and 25lb Chinook on Thursday to go with the 31lb Chinook he caught the day before. Pat Worrel of Purdey Washington caught a 34lb and 22 lb Chinook in front of the lodge. Ken Dalkey of Danville California weighted in a 34lb Chinook caught off the Songhees River a few minutes from the lodge. There were also many other nice Chinook caught in the 20 to 30 lb range by Dean and Barb Cook, Gary and Sharon Slagle, Bob and Norma Rasmussen, Ken McCart, Ted Barton, Pink Floyd and Frank Oclassen. There was also many fish lost due to plain bad luck.
We have two dates in August with some limited space, which we are discounting by $200 per person.

This past week we have seen a lot of fish come in and a lot of fish released. On Wednesday we saw Mark Engle of Tacoma, Washington bring in a 35lb Chinook to tie with Katy Buhrman's 35lb. Chinook of last week for the largest fish caught at Duval Point Lodge. This tie lasted all of about 4 hours when Duane Carlson of Port Orchard brought in a 35.5 lb Chinook. All of these fish were caught at Duval Point, which is within minutes of the lodge. Mike Higa of Seattle, Washington also weighted in a 34 lb. Chinook taken at Duval Point. There were also many other Chinook caught in the 20 to 30 lb range.
The Pinks showed up on Monday with a vengeance. The week before we were starting to see a few show up, but now they are here for sure. The coho are still here but getting bigger. Some of them are now in the low teens and what a fight! Coho must be released in our area.

Hello everyone one and welcome to the fishing report.
This past week we has been a fantastic week on the water. We have had a lot of Chinook weighed in. Every year we give a free fishing trip away to the person who catches the largest Chinook and this past week we have a new leader in our derby. Katy Buhrman of Fall City, Washington weighted in a 35 lb Chinook along with two more in the 25 lb range on Wednesday. The two hot spots on the water this past week were Castle Point and Duval Point. Anchovies and cut plug herring were what proved best.
My son Cole, his friend Richard and I were able to get out for a few hours on Tuesday to Castle Point. We had a great time and Richard caught his largest salmon ever - a 29 pounder- within minutes of arriving. We had to wait another hour and a half before the next bite. Cole laid into a 26 lb spring and then I followed with a 24lb spring. We all agreed it was a beautiful morning.
We tried for a repeat on Wednesday but with no luck. Thursday we decided to try right out in front of the lodge at Duval. After releasing a couple of coho, Cole put his bait down to 60 feet. We were just about to call it a day when the line popped off the downrigger and started heading to the bottom. We knew we were into a big fish! All Cole could do was hold onto his rod as the line was peeling out. After about a 15 minute fight we were able to get our first glimpse of the monster. It was a big fish and after several more runs from the boat we finally were able to net it. It weighed in at 39lbs - a personnel best. I had one excited kid in the boat.
Last week we saw a few pinks start to show up. I imagine within the next week or so we will have a lot more showing up. We are still releasing a lot of nice coho, some of which are well over 10 lbs.
We have two dates in August with some limited space, which we are discounting by $200 per person.
August 18-21... was $620 per person, now $420 (about $300 US)
August 21-25... was $760 per person, now $560 (about $400 US)
Until next week

Coho, Coho and more Coho. They have struck with a vengeance. Most of our boats headed out to Castle Point on Tuesday morning to do a little salmon fishing. For 3 hours on Tuesday morning the Coho were everywhere - we were having trouble just trying to put our bait into the water. Our line was being ripped out of our hands as we were trying to hook it into the downrigger clips. Most of these coho were averaging 8-10 lbs, beautiful fish, but all released.
The largest salmon this week was caught by Tim Westvang of Poulsbo, who caught a 28lb. Chinook out at Castle Point using an anchovies.
This week some friends from Vancouver came up for a little visit. Hoping to show off our fishing, Carlos and I spent a few hours out on the water Wednesday and Thursday, while my wife Debby and her friend Yvonne determined who was the scrabble champion of the North Island. Carlos and I started out one morning fishing Duval Point. After about 30 minutes of no action, our guide Todd Foggerty cruised over and said he had heard there was a bite on at Castle Point. We both pulled in our gear and headed off to Castle. We hooked into a couple of nice Coho, which we let go and one fish that broke our leader. (We are saying for the record that it was a large spring.) Todd's rods were hot - he hooked into four big springs, 18 to 30 lbs. After Todd's fourth big Chinook we called it a day and headed home. Some times it's just not your day, but then it's always good just to be out on the water.
We have 4 spots still open July 28-31, which we are discounting at $200 per trip. The price for these trips is now $420 Can, approx. $300US. For more information please call us at 250-949-6667.
Duval Point Lodge Fishing Report - July 8, 2000
Hello everyone and welcome to this weeks fishing report. The weather has been fantastic this past week. The big springs are starting to come thru, Rick Aiello and Sylvia Mathieson picked up a 28lb. spring off Duval Point earlier this week. Bruce Vanderooi and Cynthia Jones of Naniamo lost a monster spring over at the Gordon Group, they got it up to the boat but lost it.
Shane Kennedy's group from Renton Washington did very well taking home four springs, ranging from 15 to 24 lbs. all caught at Duval Point, in the same group 2 good size halibut were landed a 38 and 52lb both caught at Christie Pass.
Our Guide Tod Foggerty was out at Duval Point fishing yesterday and caught 2 nice springs over 20 lbs and then at tide change he caught and released 2 more averaging around 25lbs.
We are now seeing lots of Coho coming thru, which must be released.
Until next week
