Well as the fall season moves in to the winter I felt a quick update on
the conditions at Huites was warranted. The lake remains higher than
it has been in
the past which has led to some good and bad. For the long term the
lake has had a huge spawn of threadfin Shad. On the downsize with all
the new water came new challenges to our anglers. I spent the fall
visint with anglers jsut back fromtheir trip and what I found was a
vareity of fishing reports. I saw catches as high as 120 during a day
from one boat and another boat only caught 30 that day. A daily
changing pattern seemed to me this fall but all in all most fisherman
were plbe what was happening this fall. fisherman who pitched and
flipped seemed to do better than the guys just chunking to the shore.
The top water bite was reported good the last 30 minutes of the day by
recent groups with some guys fishing till they couldn't see to cast
anymore. While the overall numbers were down this fall most anglers
hung fish over 8 and several over 9 were caught leaving many smiling
anglers at the end of the trip. Within the next two years I expect
these same eight and nines to be weighing in at eleven and twelve and
you know who will be chunking and winding at em!
What does the spring hold?? I expect a Good December and January after
the water stablizes a bit but I really feel the warmer months of
March-April-May to be the best producers for the coming months. For
big bite fisherman I go in Febuary. If you'd like to keep up with the
reports on huites i post one about every 5 days on the message board on My Website you'll also find reports from
some of the fisherman that have come back.
Good fishing and hope to see you soon
